A little bit about us…

Taradale Medical Centre is a member of the Hawke’s Bay PHO, an organisation committed to providing comprehensive quality care in general practice. We believe your health is best managed by continuous care from the same source and would encourage you to register with one particular doctor. When you phone for an appointment please request the doctor you wish to see. Obviously, in cases of emergency or urgent illness, you will be attended to by the first available doctor who may not be your regular doctor.
After Hours
After hours care is provided by City Medical Centre, located in the Health Centre in Wellesley Road. Our practice doctors take part in this roster that ensures 24 hour quality care. House calls are also available in emergencies.
Home Visits
Home Visits can be arranged when needed for those whose circumstances prevent them attending the surgery. However, it is preferable if you can possibly make it to the surgery as more specialised equipment and background information is available.
Appointments
Standard appointments are scheduled for 15 minutes and can usually only deal with one or two problems. If you need longer please remember to book a longer appointment which will generally incur an extra fee. Minor surgery, IUCD insertion, insurance and immigration medicals and “all over check ups” require at least half hour appointments. We make every effort to run to time, but on occasions unexpected emergencies or a consultation running over time may cause delays. For those people who come in without an appointment, urgent problems will be dealt with immediately or you may be offered the first available appointment. This may not necessarily be with the doctor of your choice. If the doctors are fully booked you may asked to returned at a later time. Previously booked appointments do take priority except in urgent situations.
Repeat Prescriptions
Repeat prescription requests require at least 24 hours notice. A charge is levied for this service. However, some conditions require more regular monitoring and therefore you will be asked by your doctor to make an appointment for review. (Every six months you will be required to make an appointment with your doctor.) You can order your repeat prescriptions online using this form
Telephone Advice
We aim to be able to deal with all your appointment needs, prescription requests and queries more efficiently by listing a press button selection menu. We have an administration nurse rostered on most of the time to deal with your questions and prescription requests. Of course, she can only answer one call at a time, therefore if you get the answer phone, please state clearly your name and number for her to return your call. Alternatively you may wish to email prescription requests to nurse@taradalemedical.co.nz or use our online prescription order form
Email messages will only be attended to during normal working hours.
